A ready to use Image

- Can you mirror a bootable disk iso with some software for testing?

- Yeah, a link with some software to test it.

- Works emulators and that things?

- SD is supported?

Look at the GC Linux for Dummies FAQ on the Links page. (Yes, MMC/SD cards are supported).

What he probably meant was, The bootable disk demo currently only seems to be able to play a video does it have documentation or other functions ?

How to Install GCOS?

-How do you install GCOS to use these bootable discs??

No need to install GCOS in any special way. Just load GCOS, and boot the disc in the same way you boot a game disc.

Media

- Can you give an example of the type of media (DVD-r/+r) that can be used for this? Can you buy a burnable mini-dvd and if so where? If not, do we need to modify the case to allow for a full size dvd?

Both mini and full size DVD-R and DVD+R media work. Mini-dvd media is a lot more expensive than full size media, and usually less reliable. An example of working mini-dvd media are TDK 2x 1.4GB DVD-R. An example of working full size dvd media are Phillips 8x 4.7GB DVD-R and DVD+R. In order to use full sized media you need to remove the top cover of your cube, or buy a replacement case. A dremel is also an option for some people...

- What about DVD-RW or DVD+RW media?

The laser pot needs to be adjusted to be able to read DVD+/-RW media, and is only reported to work on some cubes.

Viper/Cobra Test

readymade GC-linux Image crashes the gamecube at the second block of the GC logo

Which image did you test? Thanks --isobel 07:05, 6 Jan 2006 (PST)

bootable mfe-distro disc image (547MB)

--Neouni

Please try mfe-distro-sample-built-with-cubeboot-tools-0.2.iso.bz2 (~80MB, compressed with bzip2). The old images didn't work on the viper nor on the original ipl. Thanks --isobel 15:32, 6 Jan 2006 (PST)

Works great

Read / Write GC discs

I've read that we can't read / write GC discs because the GC reads discs from outer to inner.

Is this true? This is the reason why we can't burn the boot disc and use them directly?

Because i have modded a DVDWritter to read / write DVD's from outer to inner.

Will this work to use the boot discs directly? Or we need the softmods anyway?

Difficulties to build cubeboot-tools-0.3.

Hi.

I use a x86 and i can build only partially cubeboot-tools-0.3. I can't build udolrel/sdre because it complains:

make: *** Pas de règle pour fabriquer la cible « ../ppc/sdre/sdre.bin », nécessaire pour « udolrel ». Arrêt.

in english: no rules to make target « ../ppc/sdre/sdre.bin », needed for « udolrel ». Aborting.

Because i have no powerpc-linux-gcc

When i install powerpc-linux-gcc-2.95.2-1-i386.tar.gz, then compiling ppc i have a "too long argument list" error:

bash-3.1$ make make[1]: entrant dans le répertoire « /home/def/cubeboot-tools-0.3/ppc/common » powerpc-linux-gcc -O2 -fno-builtin -c lib.c -o lib.o cpp: installation problem, cannot exec `cpp': Liste d'arguments trop longue make[1]: *** [lib.o] Erreur 1 make[1]: quittant le répertoire « /home/def/cubeboot-tools-0.3/ppc/common » make[1]: entrant dans le répertoire « /home/def/cubeboot-tools-0.3/ppc/apploader » powerpc-linux-gcc -fno-builtin -c apploader.c -o apploader.o cpp: installation problem, cannot exec `cpp': Liste d'arguments trop longue make[1]: *** [apploader.o] Erreur 1 make[1]: quittant le répertoire « /home/def/cubeboot-tools-0.3/ppc/apploader » make[1]: entrant dans le répertoire « /home/def/cubeboot-tools-0.3/ppc/sdre » powerpc-linux-gcc -c crt0.S -o crt0.o cpp: installation problem, cannot exec `cpp': Liste d'arguments trop longue make[1]: *** [crt0.o] Erreur 1 make[1]: quittant le répertoire « /home/def/cubeboot-tools-0.3/ppc/sdre » make: *** [all] Erreur 2

Is it possible for you who have some ppc under hands, to pre-build cubetools package and make it available? I tried to run ppc machines under pearpc and qemu, but i didn't succeeded. Maybe someone have tips about building gc-linux on x86? Unfortunately i don't have any ppc at home.

Thanks.
